Our interior designer Charlotte reflects on the path that led her to a career in interior design. From early creative interests to education and hands-on experience, she shares how her approach has evolved over time. Now a year into her role with the Auric, Charlotte offers a personal perspective on the influences that continue to shape her work.

"I originally entered the industry with a degree in textile design. From a young age, I was always drawn to art and textiles—I loved creating, experimenting with colour, texture, and pattern. Even as a teenager, I was forever rearranging my bedroom, painting murals on the walls, and getting excited about choosing furniture and accessories. I knew I always wanted a creative career, and studying textiles at university helped me develop a strong design foundation.

Throughout my degree I was always designing for interiors rather than fashion and would get carried away designing the full space, not just the finishes within it. After graduating, I moved up to sunny Manchester to begin my career in interior design—and I haven’t looked back since!

Seven years on, I still feel incredibly lucky to be doing what I love. Interior design is so much more than making a space look good—it’s about understanding how people live, work, and relax within their environments. It’s about getting to the heart of how a space functions and how it makes people feel. I’m passionate about creating homes and spaces that are not only beautiful but practical and personal. I love staying up to date with industry trends and materials while keeping timelessness at the core of every design.

Outside of work, my passion for interiors continues at home. My partner and I are two years into renovating our own doer-upper. It’s been hard work but incredibly rewarding. 4 months without a kitchen, really makes you appreciate having one! We’re doing the majority of the work ourselves and only bring in professionals when needed. We’re very lucky to have an amazing team of family and friends who’ve all lent a hand. We’ve learned so much along the way and are absolutely loving the process of turning this house into our home. It’s made me appreciate the realities of renovation project and the hard work and skill that is required from all those involved. This has all added to my perspective as a designer.

Like many design lovers, I’ve always been a huge fan of shows like Grand Designs, DIY SOS, and Your Home Made Perfect. I’ve spent countless evenings inspired by the stories behind the builds, the emotional impact a well-designed space can have, and the creativity that goes into overcoming real-life design challenges. Those programmes definitely helped cement my desire to work in this field, and they still fuel my inspiration today.

What keeps me inspired is the full journey—from an initial mood board to a fully realised space. I love getting to know my clients, understanding their lifestyles and preferences, and delivering designs that are completely tailored to them. For me, great interior design is all about connection, purpose, and creating spaces that truly enhance the way people live'
